Practice exams for Goethe-Zertifikat B1, scored like the real test.
What's inside each mock exam
Each mock exam follows the official Goethe-Zertifikat B1 structure:
Lesen — 65 minutes
Five reading tasks — short texts, advertisements, articles, opinion pieces. Match headings, answer multiple-choice, decide true or false. Same task types, same order as the real exam. Scored instantly against the official answer key.
Hören — approx. 40 minutes
Four listening tasks with audio. Everyday conversations, short talks, radio discussions. You hear each recording the same number of times as on exam day. Scored instantly.
Schreiben — 60 minutes
Three writing tasks: a personal or semi-formal email, a discussion forum post where you take a position, and a formal message. Each task is corrected individually against official Goethe examiner criteria — with a point score and pass/fail line. Results in minutes.
You finish the exam, you get your score. Every module, broken down, with the 60% pass threshold clearly marked. No waiting weeks for results.

Common questions
“How many mock exams are included?”
A growing library of full Goethe B1 mock exams, each with unique texts and three Schreiben tasks. Plus 12 extra standalone writing exercises to practise between full mocks. We add new exams regularly.
“Are these official Goethe-Institut exams?”
No. Our mock exams are independently written to match the official Goethe-Zertifikat B1 format, structure, and difficulty. b1class is not affiliated with the Goethe-Institut or ÖSD.
“What's the passing score?”
60% per module. Each module (Lesen, Hören, Schreiben) is worth 30 points — you need at least 18. Our mocks show your score per module so you know exactly where you stand.
“Can I take modules separately?”
Yes. Sit a full mock or practise individual modules — just like the real exam, where you can take modules on different dates.
“How does Goethe B1 compare to TELC B1?”
Both certify B1 German. Goethe-Zertifikat B1 is internationally recognised and often preferred for academic or professional purposes. TELC B1 is the most common choice for residence and citizenship in Germany. The formats differ — Goethe has longer reading and writing sections, three writing tasks instead of one, and no separate Sprachbausteine. We offer mocks for both. See TELC B1 mocks →
“Do you offer speaking practice?”
We cover Lesen, Hören, and Schreiben. The Sprechen module is a face-to-face pair exam — we recommend practising with a language partner or teacher.
